Disc Golf: Newcastle’s newest sport

Newcastle, NSW - June 6th 2011

Wandering around Jesmond Park you might be excused for asking what the strange metal and chain structures that have appeared in the ground over the past few weeks are? Standing just under 1.5 meters tall these are the targets for the newly installed 9 hole disc golf course.

Disc Golf if played much like ball golf but with a Frisbee. Players throw from a marked tee area towards the metal target and count how many throws it takes to land in the basket. In Jesmond Park, Hole 1 starts near the Robinson Ave carpark. The course then wraps around the back of the park finishing with a tricky shot onto an island formed by the crisscrossing canals. The trees and hills in the well maintained park provide natural obstacles and variety.

NSW High School Championships - Blacktown Region

On the 18th of March, just two days after the Parramatta Gala Day, the tour moves to the north west with a visit to Blacktown on Friday 18th March. The Blacktown Gala Day is in it's first year and featured four teams in the boys division, and one team in the girls but no competition on the girls side of the draw.
